Wanna share a winter CSA??

Two queries came to our mailbox this weekend.

One, from a couple. They’re moving from Seattle to Somerville in a week and want to buy a winter CSA share. But they’re looking for someone to split it with. I promised to post this here to see if we could drum up any takers. Winter shares tend to be smaller and cheaper than the regular season shares (on average about $150-200 maybe…). So, anyone? Feel free to reply here. Or write us, too, info [at] bostonlocalvores.org.

The second query came from a woman in San Francisco. She wanted to know same names of restaurants that feature local food. I thought she was coming out here to travel, but as it turns out, she’s a web developer working on a site for Lexus. As a way of promoting their ‘hybrid’ vehicles, they also want to promote uhm…upscale ‘localvoreish’ places to go once you buy said vehicle. I guess. I sought suggestions earlier in this post, but I’m withdrawing that request now. I kinda can’t support Lexus co-opting the spirit of this stuff. Is this wrong of me?

  1. EVOO seemed to have a very locally inspired menu and so tasty (but not inexpensive).

  2. My wife and I would be interested in sharing the CSA - feel free to forward my e-mail onto them, or let me know what we need to do next to make it happen!

  3. Henrietta’s Table also has local food. And Harvest and Lumiere, too, although those are on the high end price-wise.

  4. I too would be interested in sharing a CSA. I’m just one person, so I’d be up for splitting it 3 way (with them receiving 2/3rds) if they’d ideally like to have a bit more then half of the share.

Please feel free to pass along my email or let me know how to contact them directly.

    Thank you!!

  5. Many of the chef-owned restaurants feature local foods: Cellar at the Garden in Cambridge is great food and reasonably priced. Jasper White’s Summer Shack, Rendezous, Green Street Grill, East Coast Grill, Oleana… just to name a few.

As for the Lexus query — I would never want to discourage anyone for doing the right thing (in this case by promoting local farms and locally owned restaurants, and trying to reduce carbon emissions). Perhaps, the intent is not wholly virtuous, but if they can have a positive impact on our environment and community (and encourage others to do so), then I support the effort.

  6. Regarding the Lexus query, tell them you’ll help but ask them to make a more affordable Hybrid or better yet ask them about plans for an electric Luxury car…personally I love nice cars but gave up my BMW because it was too unenviro friendly…
