Home-grown black beans

These are the first of our black beans to dry and be ready for harvest. There will be another one or two harvests of this size to follow. We grew them for fun and out of curiosity in our community garden plot.

Aren’t they freaking adorable??!!!

  1. I planted drying beans once. Adorable, and if only we had had, oh, a quarter of the entire community garden to plant in them! (At which point, no doubt, I would have been cursing them at harvest time rather than finding them adorable.)

  2. I never believed that one could grow black beans in MA, but when I got some in my local grain CSA out of Amherst this past winter, I was thrilled!!! Nice going.
